"By Myself"

Zolan feels that even small children like a little private time. The little girl in this work seems to have grabbed a book, said good-bye to the world and toddled off to her favorite tree to be alone for a while. She may want her mother in two minutes, but not just now. Merely a glance at her relaxed face tells us she is content with her book, her tree and this sunny moment in her day. Her tree seems to protect her from behind and shelter her from above. In the background the abstract masses of green, yellow and blue suggest endless green grass, golden sunshine and blue sky. Her bare feet and legs and arms tell us how warm it is. She looks serious about her book even though the little duck on the back shows it to be a funny one. Zolan seems to be reminding us that in early childhood we could take things like cartoon creatures and teddy bears quite seriously.
